After reading Civil Engineering at Westminster University and completing an MSc in Hydraulic/Irrigation Studies at Southampton University Vassos was employed by BAA at Heathrow Airport as a Senior Project Manager. Working closely with and under the guidance of Sir John Egan, he trailed on behalf of BAA, Egan’s vision for a “World Class Construction” which resulted in the principles outlined in Rethinking Construction. Vassos is a leading collaborative working mentor to clients and the UK construction industry. His expert knowledge, mentoring skills and experience enable him to facilitate and assist organisations in optimising their construction processes through the implementation of Collaborative Working and the principles of Rethinking Construction.
Vassos has worked with in a number of pathfinder industry initiatives within client organisations including, Housing Associations and public sector Consortia, “blue chip” organisations such as Somerfield, Sainsbury’s, Asda, BAA, Lloyds Bank, McDonalds, Slough Estates and Network Rail; central and regional government bodies such as Defense Estates (Prime Contracting), and the Welsh Assembly Government as well as numerous Local Authorities. He has also advised and mentored a number of contractors in their drive for continuous improvement and supply chain management including Keepmoat, Ibex, Clugston, GallifordTry, Simons, Wilmot Dixon, Wates, Seddon, Banner, Pierce Group and Midas to name but a few. In addition, Vassos is the benchmarking facilitator for the National Federation of Builders Continuous Improvement Club and the Irish Construction Industry Federation H&S Benchmarking Club, developing and implementing performance management to drive their continuous improvement and objectively demonstrate their elimination of waste, inefficiencies and carbon to the customers.
Over the last four years Vassos has also spent a substantial amount of his time, through the National Federation of Builders, assisting organisations to win work by forming SME Consortia and preparing members to respond to a tender, “getting their foot into the door” by avoiding the de-selection of a PQQ and then responding effectively to an ITT and delivering a successful presentation and interview. In that period he has assisted individual contractors and consortia to win a place on frameworks and projects worth well over £10billion.
Vassos has shared his knowledge, “war stories” and experience in a number of conferences and lectures in the UK, USA, South Africa, Singapore, Middle East and South America.
